You've got a few days left to visit the Science of Pixar exhibit at OMSI

It's a fun exhibit.  I would say that little kids might not be too amused but 7 or 8 and above will probably like it.  Lots of little hands-on things to do and fun photo ops with the stars!

Hidden History of Portland, Oregon
In this engaging narrative, J. D. Chandler crafts a people's history of Portland, sharing the lesser-known stories of individuals who stood against the tide and fought for liberty and representation: C. E. S. Wood, who documented the conflict between Native Americans and the U.S. Army; Beatrice Morrow Cannady, founding member of the Portland NAACP and first African American woman to practice law in Oregon; and women's rights advocate Dr. Marie Equi, who performed abortions and was an open lesbian. From scandal and oppression to injustice and the brink of revolution, Hidden History of Portland, Oregon (History Press) gives voice to the Rose City's quiet radicals and outspoken activists. This event is sponsored by City Club of Portland. This event is meant to sell this new book.

Foster Children FREE at Portland Aquarium

If you are kind and wonderful enough to be a foster parent, the Portland Aquarium is thanking you by allowing Foster Children into the Aquarium for FREE.

From their website:
  •  Foster children are always welcome at our aquarium, free of admission cost. We know how stressful being in the foster system can be. We’d like to help brighten a foster child’s day, if even just for a few hours. The foster parent just needs to present state issued ID for their foster children at the box office.

I haven't been to the aquarium yet, but it looks amazing.  I drive by all the time and their parking lot is jam packed, so I am assuming people really enjoy it!  Their prices are quite low and a great rate for annual passes if you think your kids might want to go back a few times. They also have a lower cost for Field Trips, which includes Homeschoolers.  Fun and Sciencey, you gotta love it!

Happy Holidays! I hope yours were fantastic!

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful Holiday season together.  And I know it's time to start thinking about what else to do with the kids until school is back in.  Remember that there are lots of ideas on the    PortlandFamilyFun.com - Calendar of Events  PortlandFamilyFun.com - Ideas for Anytime and PortlandFamilyFun.com - Ongoing Events pages.

A few weeks ago I was invited to attend the Magic Show at Mall 205.  The show appeared to be a sell out, with lots of smiling little faces.  Kids were enchanted by the magic and excited to get the chance to come on stage and be an assistant.  What a fun family event!  I would suggest going early to get good seats.  We arrived just before show time and had to sit in the back row.  Concessions are inexpensive and the two hour show is a hoot!

At $45 for a family 5 pack.  It's a pretty good deal for 2 hours of entertainment.  They also give you various mall coupons at the door.  The entire show we could smell the tasty aromas of the Gyros and Pizza places near by.

The next show is this weekend. They are doing two shows on  December 28th and 29th at 2pm.

Halloween Coupons!

I'm so excited that it's Halloween time!  My favorite holiday!  There are so many extra fun things to do this time of year that it's hard to choose which ones.  The biggest problem is that many of them are super expensive.

In the last few years, these half price sites have become pretty popular.  Check out my post earlier this year on them, Half Price Deal Sites. Should You or Shouldn't You...

These can be great deals, but be sure to check out www.yelp.com or some other ratings sites to find out if this will be a good fit for you and your family.

Deals I have found so far...

Happy Halloween! - Halloween Guide updated!

You probably know that one of my favorite halloween activities is visiting the Davis Graveyard.  They do a fantastic halloween yard haunt!  And since most halloween activities cost over $10 per person, it's even better that it's FREE!

A few years ago the Davis's started having classes to teach us how to make our own yard haunts.  Their wish is to Halloweenify the entire town!  If you happen to be in downtown Milwaukie you can see some of their tombstones in front of City Hall.  Look for "J. Ferguson"  that's the mayor!

We went to their very first Tombstone making class.  We are starting to get quite the little graveyard going.  We've been adding a few tombstones each year.

This summer I woke up one morning with a great idea for a Pac Man tombstone! I think it came out pretty cool!

Our little graveyard is all set up and you can see it right across the street from La Salle High School.

The Halloween page has been fully updated and is ready to direct you to lots of Halloween Family Fun.

Don't Forget to Be a Tourist in Your Own Town. - Portland Police Museum

There are cool things to see all around you. You don't have to travel all the way to Darwin, MN to see something awesome. (Home of the World's Largest Ball of Twine!)

We have been cleaning out Grandma and Grandpa's attic. We recently found Grandpa's Police uniform. Grandpa (Alvin Neubarth) was an auxiliary (volunteer) police officer from the late 50's until the early 70's. We decided to donate his uniform to the Portland Police Museum. Some of his items will be on display there soon.
